Gasp in amazement at my awesome titling skills!
Haha, seriously I have those numbers there for a REASON.

Anyway. Colouring this was tedious. XD But yet fun...
And because I was trying something new, I naturally want you all to tear it apart and tell me what I did wrong, both colouring and line art. I would also like some C+C on the design of her outfit. n.n

Things I'm proud of:
The outfit design. I am going to make a few more edits but until they are made this is Katzen's new canon outfit (and her canon colouring, though that's been that way for a while).
The 'blushes', while I went overboard in some areas it doesn't look like she has a skin ailment when compared to previous attempts.
I love how her hair came out.

Things that irk me:
That damn 'swish' in the skirt.
How flat some areas are, especially in comparison to things like her skin.
The shoes. :lmao: They look so BLAND in compairson to the magically attatched greaves. Haha.
Her. Hands. Are. Horrible. I'm going to be using the flipping sketch book mom got me for more than drawing quick figures of people who don't know I'm watching them. *stalker?*
Her mouth. It just doesn't look like it's a part of her to me, but I have a lot of issues with mouths anyway so maybe I'm picky...

Things I did different:
Haha, um, a lot. I'm making edits to my style and the face shape is certainly differnet from my normal somehow.
The colouring was mainly with gradients. I REALLY need to know if this looks better than my normal colouring. I'm not sure. I like it... but I also don't.
I saved at a lower quality from normal, since I'm REALLY paranoid about it being reused somewhere >.>

Does the steel look like steel?

I would like to thank those of you who gave me C+C on my sketched works. >.> I'll eventually reply... Hopefully as soon as the incoming storms have passed. *jitters uneasily and saves her work every 20 seconds*
:icongwomp:

( Still on Hiatus. This only got posted when it did because I'm starting on another CG and all I had to do on this was the Greaves and the mouth before it was postable. )

Edit: Ack! Sorry about the initial miscat! This is... so not traditional media. >.>

i want to start out by saying i really really like the colouring, i wish you hadn't used a grayish tone but the shapes of the shadows are good.

it's really hard to give contructive criticism to this when it's called kat leaning but she's not actually leaning on anything, so i'll just say until you have her leaning on something those pose looks really stiff and awkward (even if she were to be leaning on something) we tend to curve our bodies inward a little when were leaning on something since were putting weight on it.

the hands look a little thin, and the hand on the hip looks very odd (thats a really hard one to do... i know) my best suggestion, go around look at stock artist pictures and just draw the hands for practice.

other then that, the chest looks dimensionless and flat, that can be fixed with a highlight. (again i wish you hadn't used pure white for most of your highlights... just doesn't look as good as colour)

you have to watch your perspective... from that angle her shoulder should be coming in a little, it looks awkward with her holding it so far back. the knees shows that her foot is pointing away which is fine... but i feel like there should be a heal sticking out the other side... also the foot looks too flat to the ground to be used for the raised heel pose i think you were going for.

other then all that... i really don't understand why her mouth is open like that and i think it would be great for you to try another mouth stile, i know your doing it for open mouth practice but the picture should show a reason for the mouth to be open none the less.

keep up the good work and the experimentation.
and yes the metal looks like it's metal.

I can't add anything to the critique that has already been given on this one, but I would like to say that I think you've done a marvelous job on the coloring. She also has quite a lovely face. :)

Writing this as I go along, :3

Okay, good to know you like the colouring XD I'll be playing around with merging it and something more... well more varried. I didn't agutally use grey tones andywhere but the steel ( which I meant to do either brown or blue but I was more worried about getting it to look like steel XD ) so now I'm a bit worried.. Haha...

Yeah... I've started to do a mild map out of a BG before I start on the person in most cases. The problem is that I think this one started out as a doodle. I hate when that happens because they are ALWAYS the ones I like enough to finish so there's not much structure to them because, well, it's hard to draw someone leaning on something when you didn't draw what they're leaning on. XD

Yeah, I hate the hands. I liked the one that would be resting on the surface, but that's because it looks better than the first draft. I don't remember if it was the line art or this version, but I mentioned that the flip sketch book mom got for me was going to be used for hand drawing.

T_T I didn't use white ANYWHERE but on the steel... I did use much lighter colours for them, so maybe I shouldn't have gone AS light as I did and should have messed with the opacity if the gradient. I didn't even use white on the skin, which I use on most images. XD Oh well I plan to do a bit of practice before I start colouring my contest entry ( haha, got a long way to go I spent about three hours inking last night and I'm not even 1/60th through it. As for the chest, I agree TOTALLY. I need to study chests and how fabric looks on them and shading and highlight, ect. I realized this on the 'cute Katzen' pic when I had NO idea where the heck to put the shadows. It's driving me insane because it's clicking just about as well as "hips move" and "3D objects."

Actually the heel that's off the ground is the half hiddedn foot. The perspective on that foot failed hard XD Despite that I don't have too many problems with it since it's not like I've tried to angle things quite like that. I learned a few things from it none the less. Thank you for pointing out the shoulder! Is there any way I can get you to redline that part? I have NO idea how to do perspective with shoulders and I REALLY need help in that area.

The mouth is open because she's talking to melon, who is in the line art only version. The thought was that melon had made a comment and Katzen was complaining or making a remark. XD

Yaaay! *dances* The metal looks like metal!!! I was REALLY worried that it didn't. I'm not too good at, or fond of, colouring metal.

i'm not saying you used grey to shade... i'm saying your used graying tones... tones that were less saturated then the base... therefor making it look like it's gray...

yeah... for something like this don't skip out on the BG... because it's integral... maybe next time just do the item she's leaning on... since it did start out as just a doodle.

the hand thats resting on the surface is a little too thin, but otherwise it's not awful.

same thing as i mentioned before... it looks like you used white on the skin because you went too far back saturation wise.

sent you the red line... not the best but it gets the point across

you say it's hidden by the foot... i say no it isn't because it's too big to be hidden lol

she may be talking to melon in the original line art... but she's not here...
and i can't tell what syllable she's saying... thats something you should practice... syllables lol

colouring metal is easy once you learn a couple of tricks

Rai always takes the word right out of eveyones mouth lol, she is such a wonderful criticer. Anyways, I personally like her black outfit better XD. I really do like the coloring in the hair, expecially the gradient like highlight, it is very nice. AS rai said the pose does look a little stiff. I do like the over all coloring but it will take a bit of getting used to from your other style of coloring. An I think the metal looks good alot better then I could do.
