It's true, otaku and anime fans are not ine in the same! You can be an otaku of anything, be it anime, guns, sweets, make up, anything. Also, Okatu does not mean fan, Otaku is actually NOT a complement. If I understand correctly then it means that what you're an Otaku of is impacting the way you live (IE, you put off buying food or paying the bills to buy an action figure of your favourite fandom.)

third stamp, I wouldn't mind some mild C+C to tell me how I can make future stamps look better.

Well its kind of a funny word. In japanese otaku is a super geek. In America however we tend to
use it to refer to an anime fan who knows a great deal about many animes, cosplays, and goes to conventions. The scary it takes over your life fans are referred to as Fan boys and fan girls. But it is true just because you like a couple anime
does not an otaku make.

XD; I get called an otaku because I draw anime,, it's severly annoying because the rabid fans who call themselves otaku and are highly annoying have made it look like if you like anime you are one of them.

Totally understand. It is annoying, but most of the time the crazy fans mean well. Try doing a show
at a comic-con and youll know what mean. Luckily, there are levels of fandom or being an otaku and
you are obviously not at the crazy end! lol

Oh I know, and they tend to mellow out as they get older. X3 I'm crazy, just not fandom crazy. I used to be super-fandom-crazy. Thank goodness I grew out of it. XD

GAAAH!THAT IS SO TRUE!! I would so put this in my journal if I had a subscription.I hate being labeled into the same group as those freaks who scream "KAWAII!!" every five minutes just because I like anime

XD Someone that gets my sentiments exactly, thank god! Well, I have two sentiments involving it, One is the "I don't want to be grouped in with the morons who think they are an otaku because they say 'kawaii' or like anime" (stince Otaku is not something you want to be and is not an anime thing, you can be a military otaku, anime otaku, heck, a penut butter and jelly sandwich othaku! Though that last one would be strange XD ) and I don't want someone to look at me and think that something so trivial rules my life.
XD I have a stamp that talks about my feelings about the word Kawaii, too XDDD

I think yea Otaku in japan is negative, people usually dont' wanna in counter any sorta otaku, anime, game, what ever. I consider myself an...Anime Enthustist! I love anime, i own doujinshi, i own a cosplay outfit, i've got 100 manga books (exactly atm) I've got poster, jewlery, cosplay items (ie. naruto headband, ccs sealing wand) But, in turn i'm not so enthusiastic that i forget to pay my bills or feed myself either.
So there are priorities.
I think people who claim to be "Otakus" aren't the real anime fans, and to me, it's like a black mark against all those who actually genuinly love anime. Personally i call them "n00b Otakus" beucase they obviously have no idea what their talking about as it is. Of course you run into a Narutard you're in trouble XD
As for "kawaii" I say it on occassion becuase it slips, i don't mean for it too. I watch alot of Subbed anime, not alot of dubbed, so the japanese words just sorta, rub off here and there. Still i don't think knowing waht "kawaii" means makes you an anime otaku on any level, that amkes you a moron in my opinion. I really need to write about this in LJ.
Anyways, I'll put this in my journal for use! I'd include a link but i'm really tired.

XD I agree with almost everything you said XD
As far as kawaii goes,,, I just have a vendetta against it since it's the only word most people know, and they spam it EVERYWHERE. It's also a habit of people to give one word comments or go "Sugoi kawaii!" (If I remember, the correct one is 'Totemo kawaii', but that's not the issue >.>;) XD It's a complicated thing some days.

yay for agreeing!
Though kawaii...i think it's okay, in moderation but since it's spammed everywhere it could possibly be spammed, makes it a very disliked word. It seems to me that people don't know to say "Aww this si a really cute image! I love how they look all chibi-fied and fluffy. Excellent work"
No only did you compliment the picture, you mentioned what you liked best about the image. That gives the artist an idea of waht his/her general audiance likes, and may even put more of it in his/her gallery. Then at the end you compliment it again in conclusion, and maybe you even fave it XD
I think something like that is much more helpful than "Kawaiiii~"
People need to be mroe meaningful now a days, on top of that if you odn't have much to say about the image in general, fave it and leave it alone.
Ah evil kawaii of death ^_^
=kat-reverie:iconkat-reverie: Apr 14, 2007, 6:56:20 AM
Of course it's fine in moderation, it's just that you can't tell if the person is a moderate when they use it. That and a lot of people spew random japanese words ( you can thell they are random because not even the japanese would be able to hake heads or tails of 'cute cat dog coffee pot death blue green one two three cherry' ) and use the 'love!' mood.
I agree on your commenting notions, I'm the sort that hopes for C+C but will be happy if someone tells me WHY they like an image. You have no idea how anoied I get surfing through a sea of 'Cute!' 'cool!' 'Nice' XD
I'm actually anti fave, as in I'm against faving without commenting ^^; It gives just as much info as 'Cute!' and makes you wonder if they even LOOKED at the image. At least now you can delete faves and move along. *nod*
